To
end our extensive pumpkin unit, on Halloween we got to smash pumpkins! First,
we observed how our pumpkins looked on the outside. Were they large, medium, or
small pumpkins? Did they have a big or little
stem? Then we predicted what we would see on the
inside. Each student made a guess as to how many seeds we would find.
And
then the fun began! Each student got multiple turns trying to break open their
group’s pumpkin. We brainstormed different ways to break the pumpkin open, but quickly realized that the best way to
get the job done was to throw the pumpkin on the ground with all of our might! Once the pumpkin was open, we got to get our hands dirty. Everyone got to feel the inside of the pumpkin.
As you can tell from the pictures below, we had a blast!
