Pumpkin Unit Activities

Here are a few pictures of the activities we did for our pumpkin unit!

We ordered our pumpkins from least to greatest!

We made five pumpkins sitting on a fence! For this activity I handed the students blank pieces of construction paper and simply showed them my example. They were to figure out on thier own what to cut, and where to paste it so that their picture looked like mine. They did a great job!

We made the life cycle of a pumpkin into a necklace!

Fantastic 50 Days of School

We have made it half-way to 100 days of school!

To celebrate all of our accomplishments so far, we are having a 50’s party!

Pumpkin Investigation

To end our extensive pumpkin unit, on Halloween we got to smash pumpkins! First, we observed how our pumpkins looked on the outside. Were they large, medium, or small pumpkins? Did they have a big or little stem? Then we predicted what we would see on the inside. Each student made a guess as to how many seeds we would find.

And then the fun began! Each student got multiple turns trying to break open their group’s pumpkin. We brainstormed different ways to break the pumpkin open, but quickly realized that the best way to get the job done was to throw the pumpkin on the ground with all of our might! Once the pumpkin was open, we got to get our hands dirty. Everyone got to feel the inside of the pumpkin.

As you can tell from the pictures below, we had a blast!

Pumpkin Patch 10-24-12

Thank you to all the parent volunteers who helped make our field trip to the pumpkin patch a success! We could not have done this without you. Your help is greatly appreciated by me, as well as all of the students. Everyone had a blast seeing all of the pumpkins and was even more excited when they found out that they got to take one home!
Here are some pictures of what we did at the pumpkin patch:

BMX Show 10-23-12

For our Red Ribbon Week, HSI invited a BMX show to our campus. We loved watching the neat tricks. They are so talented. It was a great afternoon watching and cheering for the talented BMX team.

Fire Station Field Trip 10-22-12

We loved walking to the fire station last week. It was so much fun!

We learned about the smoke detectors in our homes and what to do if they go off.

We also learned to Stop, Drop, and Roll if our clothes ever catch on fire.

After that, we got to see a fireman in his protective gear.

Finally, we got to explore the different parts of the fire truck. We got to feel the heavy hose as if we were real firemen. We even got to walk through the fire truck!

Thank you so much Firemen from the Carrollton Fire Station No. 6!
We had a blast!!
